Move Miami’s City Guide for October 2026, as told by a local brokerage. First sent to our email community on October 8, 2026.
What Miami in October Looks Like When You Live Here

Miami in October is when the city starts to feel like itself again. The worst of the summer heat is behind us, evenings outside get easier, and the calendar fills up fast. Halloween runs all month here, from a haunted carnival on Bird Road to free movies under the stars in Miami Beach.
This guide covers the rest of October 2026, in date order, starting from our email on Thursday, October 8:
- The big one: House of Horror Haunted Carnival, now at Tropical Park
- Free nights out: Halloween movies at SoundScape Park every Wednesday
- Season openers: the Miami HEAT home opener and the South Beach Seafood Festival
- For the kids: Zoo Boo, the Haunted Birdhouse Hunt at Fairchild and a Halloween science day at Frost
Because we are a brokerage, we also tie each event to the neighborhood around it. If you are moving to Miami, or moving across town, an October weekend is one of the best ways to test-drive an area before you commit to an address.
Move Miami Realty is the Miami brokerage led by Victor A. Ruiz, Esq. We help buyers, sellers and renters across Miami-Dade, and this is the list we would hand a friend who just landed.

The Lead Event: House of Horror at Tropical Park
South Florida’s longest-running haunted attraction has a new home for its 25th year. House of Horror Haunted Carnival is now at Tropical Park, 7900 SW 40th St, on Bird Road. The season opened on Thursday, September 24, and runs through Sunday, November 1.

What You Get
- Five haunted houses: all new for the move, including a haunted dark roller coaster.
- Carnival rides: one ticket covers the haunts and unlimited rides on the midway.
- A family zone: House of Little Horrors has kid rides and a low-scare maze for younger visitors.
- An age note: the organizer recommends the haunted houses for ages 16 and up.
Hours and Planning
The official site lists Sunday to Thursday from 6pm to 11pm, and Friday and Saturday from 6pm to midnight. The posted schedule has had a few one-off changes this season, so check it the day you go. Tickets are sold on the organizer’s ticket page, and online prices run lower than the gate.
Local tip: weekends near Halloween are the busiest. A Sunday or a weeknight is the calmer way to do it, especially with kids.
The Rest of October 2026, in Date Order
Here is everything else worth a spot on the calendar between now and Halloween. Dates and times come from each organizer’s own page, linked below.
SoundScape Cinema: Free Halloween Movies (Wed, Oct 14, 21 and 28)

The City of Miami Beach runs free outdoor movies at SoundScape Park, 400 17th St, on the big wall of the New World Center. October is Halloween month: The Goonies on the 14th, Casper on the 21st and The Addams Family on the 28th, all at 8pm. Bring a blanket and get there early for a good patch of lawn.
Miami HEAT Home Opener (Wed, Oct 21)

The HEAT open their home season at Kaseya Center, 601 Biscayne Blvd, on Wednesday, October 21. There are three more home games in October, on the 23rd, 26th and 30th. Tip-off times can move, so confirm on the team’s official schedule.
South Beach Seafood Festival (Oct 21 to 24)

The South Beach Seafood Festival runs four days of chef dinners and competitions, and it ends with the big one: the Seafood Slam on Saturday, October 24, from 1pm to 5pm at Lummus Park on Ocean Drive. Proceeds support a nutrition education program for Miami-Dade students.
Zoo Boo at Zoo Miami (Oct 24 and 25)

Zoo Boo is Zoo Miami’s family Halloween weekend, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm. Kids come in costume for trick-or-treating, a costume contest, magic shows and Halloween treats for the animals. It is included with zoo admission.
Haunted Birdhouse Hunt at Fairchild (through Oct 31)

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables has hidden 13 haunted birdhouses tied to Florida folklore around the garden. It is a riddle-solving scavenger hunt rather than a scare, and it runs through Halloween. A good pick for younger kids and a slow Saturday morning.
Spooky Science Monster Mash at Frost Science (Sat, Oct 31)

Frost Science in Museum Park hosts its 10th annual Spooky Science Monster Mash on Halloween, from 11am to 3pm. Hands-on experiments and a Mad Science Lab, included with museum admission. Family-friendly costumes are welcome.
Bonus: Vizcaya Late, Spooky Edition (Wed, Oct 14)
For grown-ups, Vizcaya’s calendar lists an after-dark evening of spooky stories and outdoor film screenings with Books & Books, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
What October Means If You Are Moving to Miami
October is a turning point on the Miami calendar, and it matters for anyone planning a move.
- Touring gets easier: the heat starts to ease, so walking a neighborhood at midday stops being a test of endurance.
- Season starts: seasonal residents begin coming back, restaurants fill up and weekend traffic picks up. What you see in October is closer to the Miami you will live in from November to April.
- Stone crab season opens: Florida’s stone crab harvest season opens October 15. For a lot of locals, that is the real start of fall.
- Events show you the real neighborhood: parking, noise and traffic on a big event night tell you more about an address than any listing photo.
Where the Events Are, by Area of Town
Every event on this list sits in or near a part of town people ask us about. Here is how each one connects, in plain terms.
| Area | October events | What it is like |
|---|---|---|
| Westchester and Bird Road | House of Horror at Tropical Park | Established single-family streets and a big county park |
| Miami Beach | SoundScape Cinema, Seafood Slam | Condos, walkable blocks and the beach |
| Downtown and Museum Park | HEAT games, Monster Mash | High-rise living on Biscayne Bay |
| South Miami-Dade | Zoo Boo at Zoo Miami | More space and more single-family homes |
| Coral Gables | Haunted Birdhouse Hunt at Fairchild | Tree-lined streets and older homes |
Westchester and the Bird Road Corridor
Tropical Park sits on Bird Road near the Palmetto Expressway. The surrounding area is mostly established single-family neighborhoods, and the park itself is one of the county’s large green spaces, busy with families most weekends. If you want a yard and a central location, it is worth a drive-through on your way to the carnival.
Miami Beach
SoundScape Park is a short walk from Lincoln Road, and Lummus Park is the stretch of sand along Ocean Drive. Both show the side of the Beach that locals use: walk, bike, skip the car. For a deeper look at everyday life on the island, read our guide to living in Miami Beach.
Downtown Miami and Museum Park
Kaseya Center and Frost Science are a few blocks apart on Biscayne Boulevard. A game night shows you exactly how the area moves when it is busy, which is useful if you are weighing a condo nearby.
South Miami-Dade, Near Zoo Miami
Zoo Miami is in the southern part of the county, where neighborhoods tend to be more spread out and single-family homes are common. Families who want more room often start their search here.
Coral Gables, Near Fairchild
Fairchild sits on Old Cutler Road in Coral Gables, one of the city’s greenest drives. The Gables is known for its tree canopy, its historic architecture and its own city rules on how homes look, so ask us about those before you buy.
